How to clean different glassware residues?

Different residues are recommended for different cleaning agents:


Organic residues: oils, ointments, proteins, blood stains, cell culture media, fermentation residues, DNA and RNA, use alkaline cleaners;


Inorganic Residues and Mineral Salts: Metal Oxides, Calcium Carbonates... Use Acid Cleaners.


Different materials are recommended to use different cleaning processes:


The glassware was soaked in diluted detergent for 30 minutes, the water temperature was 20°C-50°C, rinsed with tap water and rinsed with deionized water.


Machine cleaning Follow the manufacturer's manual and select the recommended cleaning procedure and time. Avoid cleaning temperatures higher than 65 °C, especially when cleaning capacity vessels (flasks, cylinders, pipettes, etc.) because high temperatures can damage indexing or cause capacity changes.


Polyolefin plastic products (LDPE/HDPE/PP/PMP...), This item is usually smooth and hard to wet, and it is easily cleaned by alkaline cleaners. Polyethylene-ethylene and polycarbonate containers can only be cleaned with neutral detergents. Prolonged immersion in alkaline cleaners will make the plastics harder. It is recommended that the materials be checked for compatibility before selecting suitable types and concentrations of cleaning agents.


Stainless steel products can tolerate acid and alkaline cleaners, but avoid the use of chloride cleaners to avoid corrosion damage.


Non-alloy (aluminum, zinc, tin or their alloys) products use neutral detergents.

Hand, soak or ultrasonic cleaning


For manual cleaning agent, first immerse the vessel in the cleaning agent to ensure that the inside and outside walls of the vessel are in full contact with the cleaning agent, and then use a brush or sponge to clean the stain to remove the stain. The manual method is recommended for glassware or volumes that can be cleaned with a brush or sponge.


When soaking and cleaning, the soaking, floating and dispersing force of the cleaning agent ensure that all kinds of dirt and residues are completely removed; increasing the concentration of the cleaning solution and increasing the temperature can shorten the soaking time. Using ultrasonic cleaning can reduce the cleaning time and make the cleaning effect more effective, faster and easier to control. Ultrasonic cleaning is particularly suitable for cleaning tubing, instruments with interfaces and joints.
