Glass Fiber Material Classification

- Jan 11, 2018 -

According to the glass composition, glass fiber can be divided into non-alkali, chemical resistance, high alkali, alkali, high strength, high modulus of elasticity and alkali resistance Alkali) glass fiber and so on.

The main raw material for the production of glass fiber: quartz sand, alumina and pyrophyllite, limestone, dolomite, boric acid, soda ash, Glauber's salt, fluorite and so on. The production methods are roughly divided into two categories: one is made of molten glass directly into fibers; one is the first glass melt glass made of 20mm diameter glass ball or rod, and then reheated in a variety of ways made of a diameter of 3 ~ Very fine fibers of 80 μm. Infinitely long fibers drawn through a mechanical drawing method of a platinum alloy plate are called continuous glass fibers, commonly known as long fibers. Non-continuous fibers made by rollers or air flow are called fixed-length glass fibers, commonly known as short fibers.

Glass fiber by composition, nature and purpose, divided into different levels. According to the standard requirements (see table), E grade glass fiber is the most commonly used, widely used in electrical insulation materials; S-class special fiber.

E-glass
Also known as alkali-free glass, is a borosilicate glass. Currently it is the most widely used glass component of glass fiber, has good electrical insulation and mechanical properties, is widely used in the production of glass fiber for electrical insulation, but also extensive use for the production of fiberglass glass, its drawback is easy Was acid erosion, it is not suitable for use in acidic environment.

C-glass
Also known as the alkali glass, which is characterized by chemical resistance, especially acid is superior to non-alkali glass, but poor electrical properties, mechanical strength is lower than 10% to 20% of alkali-free glass fiber, usually foreign alkali fiberglass with a certain The amount of boron trioxide, while China's alkali glass fiber is completely free of boron. Abroad, the alkali glass fiber is only used to produce corrosion-resistant glass fiber products, such as for the production of glass fiber surface felts, also used to enhance the asphalt roofing materials, but in our country, alkali glass fiber occupy most of the glass fiber production (60%), widely used in FRP reinforcement and filtration fabrics, bandages and other production, because its price is lower than the non-alkali glass fiber and have a strong competitive edge.
